Antonello Franca is a researcher at the National Research Council in Italy who also conducts research at the Institute for Animal Production in the Mediterranean Environment of Sassari, Italy. His scientific interests concern the characterization and conservation of natural pastures; control, prevention and safeguarding of the agro-silvo-pastoral environment; valorization of local germplasm of forage species for conventional and non-conventional uses; production of seed of forage and pasture species; plant physiology; sustainable forage systems for the Mediterranean environment; environmental impacts of animal production systems; and multiple roles of pastoralism for the sustainable use of rural territories. He is currently scientific coordinator of GRAZECARB, Bilateral Project Italy-Norway; a working package leader in the PASTINNOVA Prima Project; collaborator in the ENI CBC Med LIVINGAGRO Project responsible for the Living Lab on “Grazed woodlands”; and a country leader in the framework of the ERC PASTRES Project. He is also the legal referent of the Italian Network on Pastoralism (APPIA) and a member of the board of the AIAF (Italian association of Agroforestry).
